Visualizing Angle of Elevation & Depression with Geometry

2015-05-27 20:37
This example demonstrates how the angle between a line of sight and the horizontal reference direction corresponds to the angle of elevation and the angle of depression, using clear angle annotations. It focuses on fundamental concepts such as measuring angles, constructing sight lines via vectors/segments, and the geometric interpretation behind elevation/depression in trigonometric settings. In GeoGebra, the construction is driven by the commands Vector, Segment, and Angle, assembling key points (e.g., D, B_1, C_1, C, E, A, B, etc.) into rays/segments for the sight line and the horizontal reference, then creating and labeling the resulting angles (e.g., α, β). The setup also includes multiple scene/graphics groups and labels (pic1–pic6, Label1–Label2, text2–text3, picEye) to support step-by-step visualization. Suitable for middle/high school geometry lessons and introductory trigonometry activities, especially for building intuition for elevation/depression problems.
