Property of Similar Triangles
Loading the math board and drawing, please wait…
This GeoGebra example dynamically demonstrates the fundamental properties of similar triangles: corresponding angles are equal and corresponding sides are proportional. It constructs an original triangle ABC using the Polygon command, then applies the Dilate command to create a similar triangle A'B'C' centered at a point O, with a scale factor k controlled by a slider. The InteriorAngles command measures all interior angles, visually confirming that corresponding angles remain equal under dilation. The construction includes multiple objects such as the original triangle, the dilated triangle, the dilation center O, side lengths, and angle labels (α, β, γ, etc.). By dragging the slider, users can change the scale factor and observe how the triangle's size changes while its shape remains invariant. This example is ideal for middle school geometry lessons on similarity, as well as for high school review or teacher-created interactive materials, enhancing understanding of dilation transformations and proportional reasoning.
