Outward Convex Squares
This GeoGebra applet demonstrates the geometric construction of outward convex squares built on the sides of a polygon. The applet dynamically illustrates the relationships among squares, rhombuses, similar triangles, and special points using Polygon and Sequence commands. Students can interactively manipulate the vertices of the base polygon and observe how the outward convex squares are constructed on each side in real time. The model explores classic plane geometry theorems, such as properties related to Napoleon's theorem and the behavior of centroids formed by the centers of the constructed squares. As students drag points, they can investigate how the resulting geometric configurations transform while preserving key invariant properties. The applet also introduces graphical variations in a calculus context, allowing learners to observe continuous deformation of shapes and discuss limiting cases, which bridges discrete geometry with analytic thinking. This makes it an excellent tool for both classroom instruction and independent exploration. The interactive nature of the applet encourages conjecture formation and proof discovery, as students can test hypotheses by adjusting parameters and verifying whether certain relationships hold across different configurations. Suitable for middle school to undergraduate mathematics courses, this applet supports visual learning, geometric reasoning, and the development of deeper mathematical intuition through hands-on experimentation.
